| The history of the Chancellery of the Netherlands Orders begins in 1815, when the Military William Order and the Order of the Netherlands Lion were created. The head of the organisation is the Chancellor of the Netherlands Orders. The Chancellery is housed in historic premises in The Hague. The organisation consists of 22 full-time employees. The Chancellery of the Netherlands Orders is the organisation that
- accommodates and supports the Civil Honours Advisory Commission and the Advisory Commission for the Military William Order in their advice on nominations for an honour.
- provides the management of the decorations themselves and for correct shipping thereof to the persons who will confer them.
- ensures that registers of decorated persons are kept;
- monitors, in the person of the Chancellor of the Netherlands Orders, the integrity and dignity of the Orders;
